Affinity Photo: The new powerful alternative to photoshop

the new powerful alternative to photoshop

A software firm Serif has just launched ‘Affinity Photo’, touted as a new and powerful alternative to the oldest Adobe Photoshop. Serif isn’t aiming to just replicate Photoshop, or create a cut-down version.

They describe it as “the fastest, smoothest, most precise, professional image editing software” and it is designed for professional photographers and retouchers. You can download the beta of this program for free (only available for Mac)

Said Ashley Hewson, managing director of Serif in an interview with Creative Bloq, “Photoshop is an amazing piece of software. But the problem is, it’s built on 25-year-old architecture. When that architecture was being created, Adobe couldn’t have anticipated the incredible developments we’ve seen in computers since. Which means that they’re now struggling to adapt Photoshop to take advantage of modern computing power.”

David Cerny’s babies will be moved from Prague to Australia

Celebrated Prague artist to exhibit in Australia for the first time at Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi 2014

Travelling all the way from Prague, David ?erný’s internationally renowned and much loved fibreglass, Babies will be installed and unveiled at Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi on Friday October 31 at Marks Park.
With each figure 2.4 metres high and over 3 metres long, these figurative pieces are striking in size and form and will be a definite hit with the general public for their personality and flair.

This is the first time the celebrated artist from Prague has exhibited in Australia. ?erný’s Babies project, were first presented in 1994 at the Chicago Museum of Modern Art, followed by appearances in various other major cities including London. The Tower Babies crawling up one of the Prague’s most prominent landmarks the Žižkov TV Tower are without a doubt the most visible and highly recognised sculptures in this series of work.  A Czech sculptor,  David ?erný is well known for his controversial and flamboyant sculptural works including painting the Prague memorial Russian tank bubble-gum pink shortly after the revolution in what was then Czechoslovakia; and his full scale double-decker London bus doing push-ups during the London Olympics.

"It is wonderful to have ‘The Babies’ in Sydney, overlooking Bondi beach", says David Handley, Founding Director of the exhibition.
"Ever since David shot to fame with his pink tank we’ve wanted him to exhibit his work at Bondi. The moment ‘The Babies’ arrived on site they’ve seemed intriguing to passers-by and brought a smile to many a face."
"Due to a delay with European customs and then the storms at sea, the arrival of the Babies has been delayed until today."
Sculpture by the Sea hope for David ?erný to be a visiting artist of the exhibition in the next year or two.

Photoshop CS2 for free from Adobe website?

It seems like Adobe is offering free versions of CS2. But ad they corrected on the blog:

You have heard wrong! Adobe is absolutely not providing free copies of CS2!

What is true is that Adobe is terminating the activation servers for CS2 and that for existing licensed users of CS2 who need to reinstall their software, copies of CS2 that don’t require activation but do require valid serial numbers are available. (Special serial numbers are provided on the page for each product download.)

Anyway, if you go to this page what you will find is the creative suite. If you have a digital creative streak but your budget doesn’t extend far enough to buy Adobe’s Creative Suite applications, this is for you.

Facial Hacking in Technarte

At Technarte’s last edition, the Dutch artist and facial hacker Arthur Elsennaar was awarded with the Best Speaker Award because of his artistic technological performance “Perfect Paul: On freedom on facial expression”. Arthur Elsennaar researches the choreographical capabilities of the computer-controlled human face, which challenges the traditional notion of facial expression as a conveyor of emotion and aims to develop a choreographical facial language

His project investigates the computer-controlled human face as a medium for kinetic art and develops algorithms for facial choreography. Small precisely controlled electrical impulses are employed to trigger the facial muscles of a live human person into rendering involuntary expressions. As the human face is controlled by a digital computer instead of a neural brain, it can be made to perform in unexpected ways, bringing together dance and technology in the most direct way imaginable. Are we able of communicating something verbally while our face transmits the opposite? With facial hacking it is possible.

Perfect Paul allows more stable control of facial gestures, breaks the limits of human control and discover an unknown potential in human expression through hardware and software. As the human face has gotten willingly programmed, could we say metaphorically that freedom of facial expression has been reached or, in the other hand, this control transgresses the limits of human freedom?

Technarte brings together every year in Bilbao a score of artists and technologist like Arthur Elsenaar, who present during the conference innovative artistic-technology projects, related to disciplines like virtual reality, art and robotics, interactive architecture, and any other artistic disciplines emerged of the union of art and technology.
